Natural stone finishes

Natural Stone Finishes Explained

Polished, honed, brushed and tumbled are the four finishes produced by Lena Natural Stone. Each changes surface reflectivity, texture and maintenance.

A natural stone finish is the surface treatment applied after cutting. It changes reflectivity, texture and how the stone behaves in use, but not the material itself. Lena Natural Stone produces polished, honed, brushed and tumbled finishes.

The four finishes

FinishSurface characteristics and typical use
PolishedHigh reflectivity, closed surface. Interior walls, vanity tops, feature areas.
HonedMatt, smooth surface. Interior flooring, cladding, general project use.
BrushedSlightly textured, low sheen. Wet areas, terraces, external paving.
TumbledSoftened edges and aged texture. Mosaics, rustic floors, pool surrounds.

How to choose a finish

  • Interior dry areas: honed or polished.
  • Wet and external areas: brushed or tumbled.
  • Facades: honed or brushed; polished weathers unevenly outdoors.
  • Mosaics: tumbled is the most common, honed for a cleaner look.

Finishes can be mixed inside one order. A project can use honed floor tiles, brushed external paving and tumbled mosaic from the same material.
